Bingham's Notebook: Character Profile — Dr. Ibrahim Aziz
In this post, we present a character profile of Dr. Ibrahim Aziz, who we meet at the outset of Call of The Minotaur, Midas Files Book Two. Dr. Aziz is the man that has been watching over Hank Raglan during ten years of a coma, though it should be noted he is not "The Watcher", who we know, from Midas Files Book One, The Midas Protocol, is our alien interloper and friend, B'yob Oberon.
Dr. Aziz is a charming and well-groomed individual in his mid-40s, exuding a youthful appearance. He dresses impeccably and speaks excellent English, having spent significant time in the U.S. Additionally, his pleasant and affable nature makes him a joy to be around.
As the chief physician, Dr. Aziz is responsible for overseeing the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment plans for long-term patients, particularly focusing on maintaining their health and stability.
His extensive medical training and years of experience enable him to command respect among staff and patients alike. He has a keen understanding of the complexities of medical care in a challenging environment.
Dr. Ibrahim Aziz harbors a deep-seated hatred for Saddam Hussein's regime rooted in a tragic family history. Unknown to most, he is secretly a descendant of the Al-Tai tribe, which was historically persecuted by Saddam's government due to their resistance against his authoritarian rule. During the regime's brutal crackdown on dissent, Dr. Aziz's family suffered immensely; several of his relatives were executed or disappeared without a trace, leading to a legacy of pain and trauma that has haunted him throughout his life.
Despite his outward demeanor of professionalism and calm, the pain of his past fuels a burning desire for vengeance. He has always felt an intense obligation to fight against the oppression of his people, albeit in a way that wouldn't draw attention to himself.
This desire for justice motivates him to protect Hank Raglan, whom he perceives as a potential ally against the regime's evils. Dr. Aziz believes that by safeguarding Hank—who is believed to harbor the mysterious Gold Box that could possess untold power—he is not only averting the threat of Mortimer Vanterpool but also striking a blow against the corrupt system that took so much from him and his family.
As he cares for Hank, Dr. Aziz secretly hopes that, once Hank fully awakens and comprehends the gravity of his situation, the two might rise against the regime together. In his mind, preserving Hank's life becomes intertwined with his quest for retribution, creating a deeper bond and giving him a sense of purpose amidst the chaos around him. His medical skills, cultivated not only to heal but also to protect, serve as his weapon in this silent war against an oppressor he has come to despise.
